About Us

Welcome to the Community of Small Farmers and New Rural Pioneers

The small farmers of today and the new rural pioneers are not your granddaddy’s small farmer or rural dweller. Living the simple good life is not to be confused with simple living as defined by Wikipedia.

The small farm and rural simple good life, is a lifestyle intentionally chosen by a growing number of well informed, more independent minded individuals who are eager to learn practical new skills.

Today’s new pioneer small farmers and rural agrarian homesteaders seek to harness the wisdom and lessons of the past, with the most effective science and technologies of today, for living more self-reliant, sustainable, satisfying and meaningful lives. We are a community of like-minded people who have a passion for living the quality of life that small farming and rural living can offer.

Simple good life living is not a frugal, self denying acetic existence or a rugged individualistic journey. Simple good life living will only thrive and be sustainable today, with the new rural pioneers, as it did in the past with our forefather pioneers, with self-reliant producers and contributors joining together in healthy, interdependent communities.

Using New Media to help small farmers grow their business and

The Simple Good Life Network is a New Media online media production company. Our purpose is to be a source of encouragement, practical knowledge and resources for the growing community of small farmers and new rural pioneers. Our community building mission, is to serve a key supportive role through our media reporting, podcasting show productions, website and social media communities, to grow up small farmers and local community food systems. Providing small farm and rural living learning resources, marketing promotion and consumer education are the main operating goals of our mission.

Content produced by the Simple Good Life Network is distributed under agreements with other print, broadcast and web-based New Media news and information outlets.

We are one of you, as fellow community members on the same simple good life journey, we appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you. Lynne and I eagerly look forward to getting to know you.

Hi Chef Keith,

Thank you for the kind words.

Lynne and I found your great podcast and website HarvestEating.com back in early May, as we were searching for other healthy local food, sustainable and rural living podcasts. We had ordered our Heils (you guested right about Cliff), and other podcasting equipment and were just beginning to learn about podcasting. During one of our first consulting sessions with Cliff Ravenscraft, podcastanswerman.com, we asked Cliff if he new you and if he had worked with you. Cliff said yes to both questions and asked how we knew or learned about you. Cliff enthusiastically suggested to us that after we got some of our first podcasts up we should try to connect with you.

We knew from your podcast and website that you had a busy schedule, to say the least, with your podcastings, blog, TV show, NYC trip and Alaskan cooking cruise, so I was planning to contact you in early August. Lynne and I are so glad you reached out to us.

We are planning many interviews in our format with small farmers, authors, and others, and we would be THRILLED to have you as a guest. I will email you to arrange for us to talk.

Thank you for listening.

Regards,
Barry

Hi Lynn and Barry,

As I was working in the kitchen canning and preserving the harvest today, I listened to all seven of your podcasts. The pocasts were interesting and educational and quality produced. I have spent most of my life living the simple life, but the culmination came when five years ago I married a third generation farmer. Our sole income comes from our small family farm where we raise produce, quality hay and other cash crops, as well as run a small beef herd. In addition to these activities that pay the bills, my own personal hobbies include running a small cow share program of standard, miniature and percentage Jerseys. Not only do I enjoy milking the cows and making cheese and dairy products from the raw milk, but I also enjoy raising up quality family cows for other homesteaders to purchase. I also raise Miniature Nubian goats, Red Wattle/ Red Wattle mix pigs, and free range hens for egg production. My time is divided between the farm/animals that I love so dearly and my kitchen where I enjoy preserving the bounty and cooking healthy, traditional foods. Most of our meals are zero mile meals, and we are quite pleased with this. Thank you for this outlet and community you are building that connects like minded folks.
